Smartphone search and rescue app wins coastguard contract
8 West’s SafeTrx app has been used by more than 180,000 people in 12 countries so far
A vessel-tracking app for search and rescue missions has netted Cork company 8 West Consulting a new contract with Her Majesty’s Coastguard (HMCG) in Britain.
The deal will see HMCG use 8 West’s SafeTrx app as its official voluntary safety identification system.
The smartphone app monitors users’ boat journeys and alerts designated emergency contacts if they fail to make it to shore at the planned time.
