Scenes of violence in Vegas only give MMA a black eye

Despite UFC president Dana White’s declared ‘disgust’ at the brawl following last week’s Conor McGregor fight in Las Vegas, many see it as a result of the company’s glamorisation of poor behaviour in the pursuit of huge profits

A week ago today, the burgeoning sport of mixed martial arts (MMA) suffered a black eye at the hands of its most prominent promotion company, the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).

At the company’s UFC 229 event in Las Vegas, a record number of viewers from around the world tuned in for the fight and witnessed the violent scenes that erupted following Conor McGregor’s loss to lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.
