Sanctions pressure eases on Aughinish business

Supplies out of the key Aughinish Alumina plant are understood to have left as pressure on the plant from US financial sanctions against its owner have eased in the past two weeks.

Rio Tinto, the Anglo-Australian mining giant, which supplies Limerick-based Aughinish with raw bauxite and also buys the refined alumina product, had said last month that it was reviewing its relationship with UC Ruscal, the parent company of the plant.
