Bank of Ireland is more than 200 years old. It has seen bad times before. It has gone through trauma, crisis, wars. Yet for all that history, it too had to deal with the existential threats of the great crash of 2008. True, it was the least worst of the Irish banks. But that is hardly a badge of honour.
