Revenue attempts to value unquoted shares

The taxman is bolstering its expertise on the valuation of unquoted shares ahead of the proposed introduction in 2018 of a new share-based remuneration scheme aimed at SMEs.

The difficulties associated with the valuation of unquoted shares – those not listed on a stock exchange, and thus harder to trade and value – was a major issue flagged in a Department of Finance consultation on the taxation of share-based remuneration earlier this year.
