With its wealth of pharma, food and tech companies, the south is in rude health and bursting with potential for further development. Colette Sexton reports

We have a lot to thank the south for. The region keeps us fed, healthy and connected. The counties of Waterford, Cork, Kilkenny, Kerry and Tipperary are home to some of Ireland’s biggest food companies, including Kerry Group, Glanbia and Tipperary Co-op. These areas make drugs that keep hearts pumping and kidneys filtering, with major pharma companies like Eli Lilly, Pfizer, and Sanofi Genzyme, while also advancing technology through some of the world’s major IT companies, including Apple, Fexco and Dell EMC.
