Public must help prosecute unethical digital influencers
Bloggers who are supplied with goods don't not always declare them
Digital influencers who pass off advertising content as editorial are unlikely to be prosecuted unless members of the public start reporting instances to the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission.
Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation Mary Mitchell O’Connor has advised the Dáil that social media influencers can be prosecuted for not disclosing paid-for content through the Consumer Protection Act 2007, which comes under the remit of the CCPC.
