Newstalk’s ratings on the rise thanks to the ‘Pat effect’

Newstalk was the star of the third quarter Joint National Listenership Research (JNLR) report, but according to account managers and analysts, attributing this performance to Pat Kenny alone is missing the point.

Newstalk’s increase in 12 months, by 18 per cent, or 82,000 listeners, does not at all come down to its high-profile recruit: Newstalk Breakfast added 32,000 listeners, now 153,000 in total. Lunchtime added 10,000 listeners, bringing it to 75,000.
