Is the government coming round to the idea of owning the banks?
Is it now time to sell our remaining stakes in the three banks left standing?
According to the economists at the ESRI think tank it is. It’s reasoning is that by selling the banks, of which we own 99 per cent of AIB, 75 per cent of Permanent TSB and 15 per cent of Bank of Ireland, there will be greater competition among them for lending and prices.
