It’s rare that a tax announcement offers any reason to be cheerful. But, not for the first time, it strikes me that being the Minister for Finance can be a thankless task.

Take the experience of last week. Paschal Donohoe announced that he was not going to revalue houses for the purposes of local property tax (LPT)in 2019, so our LPT bills will be the same next year as they are this year.
