Low price of sterling drives car imports

Used car imports into Ireland for the first eight months of this year increased from the same period in 2016 by 40 per cent, rising from 44,404 to 62,160, according to figures supplied by the Society of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI).

That represents a near 88 per cent increase compared to the period January to August 2015, and the change can be closely linked to the sterling/euro exchange rate.
