UC Rusal, its parent company, has been targeted by the US government over the links between its billionaire owner Oleg Deripaska and Moscow. An escalation of the sanctions imposed by the US Treasury Department against a number of oligarchs and their companies has threatened to wipe out Aughinish,which employs 450 directly and hundreds more indirectly in its supply chain.
