Mortgage gouging by banks does not serve society well
A bit of bank-bashing rarely does a politician, or indeed a newspaper columnist, any harm. The banks remain deeply unpopular, with their high interest rates and charges, the hoops they make people and companies go through to get loans, and the big salaries many executives still pull down even after government curbs on the excesses of a past age.
