The High Court has approved the appointment of inspectors to Independent News & Media (IMM) to probe data breaches and other matters at the company.

The president of the High Court judge Peter Kelly said in a ruling today that inspectors should be appointed, citing a myriad of questions that have not been answered.

The order was sought by the Office of the Director of Corporate Enforcement(ODCE) following a long investigation of the company after a whistleblower complaint made byformer INM chief executive Robert Pitt. INM had opposed the application, claiming it would havea disproportionate effect on the company, its employees and its share price.
