With the League of Ireland returning tonight, Emmet Ryan casts an immensely biased eye over what lies ahead and the unusual bookends to ‘summer soccer’

Alan Gallen was nicknamed Bambi by UCD fans. His issues with balance made him a striker who couldn’t exactly be leaned on to be a long-term option up front. On an absolutely Baltic day to close the shortened 2002/03 season, however, he scored the all-important goal for the Students.
