Irish entrepreneur set to benefit from Skyscanner sale

Deal with Chinese giant comes a day after British government highlighted tech sale 'problem'

Sky scanner, the British-based travel site best known for its flight price comparisons, is to be bought by a Chinese firm for around £1.4 billion. The buyer is Ctrip.com International, one of China’s biggest travel companies.Irish entrepreneur Ray Nolan is one of the shareholders set to benefit from the sale.

Nolan was chairman at Skyscanner for three years until 2013. He is best known for founding booking site Hostelworld.

The announcement of the deal comes just a day after British chancellor Philip Hammond,in his autumn statement, referred to the “long-standing problem” of fast-growing British tech firms being snapped up by bigger companies, rather than continuing to grow independently.
