Ireland’s victory on corporate tax will be short-lived

Paschal Donohoe had every reason to be pleased as the French-inspired push on digital giants ground to a halt last week, but we will soon find our room for manoeuvre shrinking

There’s a famous picture, taken in 2012, of Enda Kenny and Nicolas Sarkozy at the European Council. The pair are all smiles, but Sarkozy has his hand on the side of Kenny’s head.

It’s clearly a patronising gesture. There’s no amount of smiling that will disguise the hostility inherent in the head pat. Kenny is even pushing Sarkozy’s hand away.
