Instagram attracts the bulk of its advertising from small businesses

Instagram has more than doubled the number of advertisers using its platforms since February. The Facebook-owned photo and video-sharing app opened up to advertising a year ago and now has 500,000 advertisers.

Instagram’s chief operating officer Marne Levine said that most of the world’s top brands now advertise on Instagram but that the majority of its advertisers are small businesses. This could be because the app is so popular with millennials, she said.
