INM winds up pension scheme

Publishing giant’s scheme had seen accumulated shortfall of €23 million over the years

Independent Newspapers, the publisher of the Irish Independent and Sunday Independent, has wound up its defined benefit employee pension scheme, which had accumulated a shortfall of €23 million.

In an explanatory note sent to employees, the company said that “following a comprehensive review, the board of the company has written to the trustees of the DB plan advising them of the decision to cease to contribute to the plan”.
