Help to Buy should not be left to die

The successful first-time buyer scheme must be extended. Otherwise, years of progress will be undone, writes Hubert Fitzpatrick

The Irish Home Builders Association (IHBA), Goodbodys and others estimate that 50 per cent of purchases of starter homes in 2018 were enabled by the government’s Help to Buy scheme. It has been a major success in enabling first-time buyers to secure a home, and in assisting builders to build properties suitable for them.
