Hedge funds to make €230 million profit on Nama bonds

Funds have seen the value of the bonds increase steadily over the past 18 months

A small number of international hedge funds are sitting on profits of almost €230 million following a sustained spike in the value of junior bonds issued by Nama, the state’s toxic loans agency.

The funds, which acquired the bonds during the liquidation of the IBRC in 2015, have seen the value of the bonds increase steadily over the past 18 months amid increasing certainty that Nama will deliver a profit over its lifetime.
