In the future, the world may have to produce a lot more food with a lot less arable land
Last week, this column looked at the technological innovations which are being developed to replace fossil fuel use in the global economy. Today, we will look at the second-largest challenge posed by climate change: food supply. In simple terms, global warming could result in a significant decline of the world’s arable land. Consequently, the challenge for innovators will be to drastically increase agricultural efficiency and crop yields.
