The proposed multibillion pound merger of food retail giants Sainsbury’s and Asda is set to transform Britain’s grocery sector
‘We’re in the money,” sang Mike Coupe, the chief executive of Britain’s second-biggest supermarket chain, Sainsbury’s.
Coupe’s off-camera show tune blunder last week, for which he subsequently apologised, came ahead of a TV interview about a proposed multibillion pound merger with rival supermarket chain Asda.
Asda has been owned by US supermarket giant Walmart since 1999, and its merger with Sainsbury’s would represent a major shift in the British grocery market....
