Ryanair is not alone in experiencing difficulties: across the world, numerous airlines are in varying degrees of trouble, writes Eithne Dodd

Jet Airways stopped carrying passengers last April. It was India’s oldest private carrier, and had more than 120 aircraft flying to almost 2,000 destinations.

The company began reporting a loss in March 2018. Between April 2018 and April 2019, about 60 per cent of its market value was wiped out and the chairman, Naresh Goyal, resigned.
