Exodus of journalists to PR a wake-up call for media

Maybe instead of lambasting them on Twitter for leaving, we should be asking ourselves why so many young journalists are abandoning an industry they worked incredibly hard to break into

The phenomenon of journalists leaving the industry to go into PR is not a new one, but it seems to have picked up the pace in recent months. Sarah Bardon, political reporter with The Irish Times, left to become press adviser to Minister for Health Simon Harris; Paul Hosford, reporter with TheJournal.ie, joined Gordon MRM; Newstalk sports broadcaster Oisin Langan joined Wilson Hartnell; and Conor Brophy, business reporter at RTÉ and Sunday Business Post columnist, left the industry to take up a position at Teneo PSG.
