Dunnes vote result due in March

The results of a ballot of thousands of Dunnes Stores workers for industrial action will be known by early March. The ballot is being conducted by the trade union Mandate, which represents 4,000 of the 10,000 staff employed by the company in its 112

Gerry Light, assistant general secretary of Mandate, said the vote was being held as a result of Dunnes’ refusal to implement the terms of a Labour Court recommendation issued last November.

In that recommendation, the court said Dunnes should open discussions with unions on issues including the implementation of so-called ‘banded hour’ contracts, which would provide workers with security surrounding their hours and earnings.
