Executives of rival companies may be the bitterest of enemies, but rarely do their battles break out into the public arena. No matter how great the competition may be, it’s rare to engage in a war of words.

So it was something of a backhanded compliment when Mike Fries, a senior executive of the company that runs Caribbean mobile phone operator Cable & Wireless, referred to his chief rival, the Denis O’Brien-led Digicel.
