Council at risk of losing Microsoft’s €1m in rates

Valuation Office has three-year backlog of more than 3,800 applications to value buildings

A council is at risk of losing out on a €1 million rates boost from Microsoft due to a lengthy backlog at the Valuation Office.

Microsoft moved into a new €134 million headquarters for its 2,000 staff in Leopardstown in south Dublin last February in a ceremony attended by Taoiseach Leo Varadkar.

It is estimated that the new building will generate around €1 million in rates per year for Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown council.
