Correction or meltdown?

On the face of it the huge points drop in the Dow Jones is eye-watering. But the underlying reasons, say many fund managers and analysts, are positive

In the space of a couple of hours yesterday close to $1 trillion was wiped off the value of US stocks.

You need to go back to the depths of the financial crisis in 2008 and the European debt crisis in 2011 to find the percentage drops the main US markets recorded yesterday. In even more simple term there has never been a 1,500-point fall on the Dow Jones Industrial Average before.
