One of Ireland’s largest media companies has called on the government to act to prevent the closure of publishers and broadcasters in Ireland.

The remit of the Minister for Communications should be widened to include all media, and other parts of the ministerial portfolio should be reallocated to ensure adequate time is given to ensure Irish-produced analysis, opinion and entertainment is protected, said Alan Cox, chief executive of marketing communications agency Core.
