A chance to buy art at affordable prices
Some 42 pieces of art will be sold by the American businessman and philanthropist Tony Pilaro and his wife Linda at a charity auction in the RDS on Monday
Art enthusiastskeen to start a collection, or add to an existing one,without breaking the bank should be interested in an auction of works by David O’Kane, Michael Cullen, Clare Cashman, Guggi, Veronica Dooley and others at the RDS in Dublin next week.
Some 42 pieces of art will be sold by the American businessman and philanthropist Tony Pilaro in the charity auction. Pilaro and his wife Linda are selling the works, which will go under the hammer at the RDS in Dublin on Monday, in aid of the RDS Visual Art Awards.
The guide prices range from €100 to €3,000, so the organisers are expecting good interest from those seeking affordable pieces.
All 42 paintings were completed by recipients of the CAP Foundation award. The Pilaros funded the award, which ran for ten years from 1998, and which each year helped two graduates of the National College of Art and Design in Dublin to make the transition from student to artist.
Pilaro, who received an honorary doctorate from UCD in 2008, has funded a number of other initiatives, including a scholarship programme for African-American students at his alma mater, the University of Virginia, and the foundation of the Centre for Research in Infectious Diseases (CRID) at UCD.
At the awarding of the honorary doctorate, Professor William Hall told guests that there was “no question that CRID would not exist today had it not been for Anthony Pilaro’s support and generosity”.
Pilaro, a tax lawyer by profession, is a close associate of Chuck Feeney, the Irish-American businessman whose Atlantic Philanthropies gave away billions to good causes before being wound down last year.
