Can Smyths Toys Conquer Europe?

Irish firm already had plans for Dutch expansion before Toys‘R’Us deal; Acquisition will bring turnover to well over €1bn; Online sales now make up 20 per cent of revenue

When Toys‘R’Us announced last month that it would be closing all its British stores after a bruising failed bankruptcy process, its main competitor didn’t miss a beat, or an opportunity to capitalise. Within a short time of the news breaking, Smyths Toys was offering a 20 per cent discount to customers who presented their Toys‘R’Us loyalty cards in its stores.
