Your Business: Tackle Brexit with a smart strategy

Nobody knows what form Britain’s departure from the EU will take. Julie Sinnamon, chief executive of Enterprise Ireland, advises preparing for the worst and hoping for the best

Brexit is the single biggest economic challenge that Ireland has faced in the past 50 years. It is particularly challenging for Irish SMEs who are dependent on Britain as an export market (an average of 35 per cent across sectors, considerably higher in some sectors); as a source of raw materials, ingredients and components; as a conduit to the rest of the world (for both imports and exports); and as a friendly neighbour and ally with huge similarities to us in everything from common law and the flexibility it affords, to a good old sense of humour.
