It’s official: cash is no longer king

On a recent trip to Norway, John Connolly, the owner of Clare-based chocolate company Hazel Mountain Chocolate, hardly used cash. Instead, he used cards and digital payment options.

“I barely know what the currency looks like,” he said with a laugh.

Norway is one of a growing number of countries shifting away from cash usage. Ireland too is changing, with more card payments and less cheque usage than in the past.
