The Bank of Ireland in College Green, Dublin is pictured on February 28, 2009. 7,000,000 Euros (USD 8,8 millions) were stolen in the biggest cash robbery in the history of the Irish Republic from the Bank of Ireland in College Green, Dublin on February 27, 2009. An armed gang is believed to have taken the family of a Bank of Ireland worker hostage at their home in County Kildare. The gang forced their way into the home at Kilteel and seized the worker's partner, her mother and a seven-year-old child. The worker was forced to drive his car to the Bank of Ireland and withdraw the 7,000,000 Euro sum. Six men and a woman were detained as elite Garda officers and detectives intercepted cars and swooped on a home in late-night raids across Dublin.
