Big three to kick off banking sector's earnings season

It has been a busy year for the Irish banking sector with the sale and flotation of 29 per cent of the government’s stake in AIB and the appointment of HSBC’sFrancesca McDonagh as the next chief executive of Bank of Ireland.

But the sector faces many challenges as it continues its steady but slow recovery from the financial collapse. Mounting regulatory pressure on the banks to deal with non-performing loans, the uncertainties thrown up byBrexit and the implications of housing supply constraints for mortgage lending are among the key hurdles facing the sector as it attempts to return to a more even keel.
