Battle for radio stations’ second place heats up

The latest listenership figures show that RTÉ’s flagship station dominates overall, but the race between Today FM, Newstalk and 2FM is as fierce as ever

In most cases, first place is the desired position, but in the Irish radio industry RTÉ Radio One is miles ahead of the competition, with 869,000 daily listeners. So the big fight is for second, and the competition has never been so fierce.

With 412,000 daily listeners, up from 393,000 year-on-year, Today FM is winning by a tiny margin of 10,000 listeners, according to IPG Mediabrands. ...
