A bid for bankruptcy by a Carlow businessman who owes AIB nearly €25 million has been refused, amid claims his former solicitors “coerced” him into putting a charge over his property assets.

Summary judgment was previously entered against Philip Morrissey over guarantees he gave on loans for the purchase of lands in Carlow and Kilkenny by concrete and quarrying company Dan Morrissey (Ireland) Ltd, which went into receivership in 2014.
