What are my rights on faulty goods?

Question: I bought a few Christmas presents online for the first time ahead of last month’s festivities, but was a bit disappointed with the results. One item turned up too late to give it as a Christmas gift, despite assurances that it would arrive in plenty of time. And another item was damaged on arrival and looked absolutely nothing like its description online. How can I rectify the situation?
