Huge TV spends, chirpy radio ads and full-page newspaper adverts come to mind when supermarket marketing is mentioned, but for SuperValu its main marketing channel is its team of employees on the ground in its 224 stores.

The retail chain – one of Ireland’s largest – focuses on the little things that change the weekly shop from a torturous experience into something more enjoyable, according to its marketing director, Ray Kelly.
