Editorial: Standing still on infrastructure is simply not an option

The upcoming review of the National Development Plan is a chance for us to take stock of the country’s creaking infrastructure

Given that the country’s population is projected to increase by an additional one million people by 2040, standing still is simply not an option

The nation’s focus has, for some time now, been on the battle against Covid-19 and the progress of our sometimes stuttering vaccination programme. This is quite understandable, but significant work has been quietly taking place in the background on other areas that will play a crucial role in Ireland’s future economic wellbeing.

Among these is the review of the €116 billion National Development Plan (NDP), which was launched in 2018.
