The cautious optimism of recent weeks in relation to the milder effects of the Omicron variant of Covid-19 is fast becoming a more solid cause for collective relief. With case numbers having shattered all previous concepts of a severe wave of the virus, the translation of those cases into serious hospitalisations or ICU figures has not materialised in any substantive way.
