Sinn Féin has made much of its desire to rise above sectarianism and bigotry. Just last year, the party launched its third strategy for “inclusion and reconciliation in a new Ireland”.

But actions count louder than words. Brian Stanley, the Sinn Féin Laois-Offaly TD, showed no regard for reconciliation on this island when he sent an offensive tweet about the Provisional IRA’s bomb attack on British paratroopers.
