More than 60% of Irish people live in urban areas while 40% live near the coast
- Just under 2.99 million people, or 63 per cent of the population, live in urban areas, an increase of 4.9 per cent from the 2011 Census. There was a two per cent rise in the numbers living in rural areas to just under 1.78 million, or 37 per cent of the population
