Votegate shows cracks in the whip system

TDs are likely to require ID cards to vote in future but that won’t reverse a culture change

Fianna Fáil leader Micheal Martin yesterday declared that there were “serious questions” to answer and called for “Oireachtas oversight”.

There was a palpable delight in Leo Varadkar's voice when Mary Lou McDonald brought up the voting issue. The Taoiseach agreed with the Sinn Féin leader that action needed to be taken and said he hoped that the TDs from Fianna Fáil would give personal statements to the Dáil tomorrow....
