Taoiseach Leo Varadkar is privately urging British prime minister Theresa May, Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon and Welsh First Minister Carwyn Jones to lend their support to Ireland’s bid for the 2023 Rugby World Cup.

Ireland will find out this Wednesday whether it has been successful in its bid to host the 2023 finals after a secret ballot by rugby unions in London, with France and South Africa also in the running.
