We can turn this around, and it doesn’t have to mean living in lockdown for most of the year. It means learning from successful counties and pushing Covid cases down to low numbers

Facts are stubborn things, and the evident success of these counties should be the anchor point for discussions on managing our situation.

Last week, I had an uncomfortable conversation with my nine-year-old daughter. She asked how a government that cares about its people can be afraid of Covid-19, and also be afraid of the solutions shown to work against Covid-19 in other countries?

I struggled to reply. Eventually she answered it for me: “It’s not Covid-19 that the government are afraid of – they’re afraid of making choices.”
