Fine Gael leadership hopeful Leo Varadkar has heaped pressure on Enda Kenny to quit, accusing the Taoiseach of creating a “distracting and destabilising” situation by failing to outline a timeline for his departure.

Kenny is this weekend discussing his future with his wife Fionnuala. His supporters believe that he would be prepared to step down within 12 weeks and are hoping that a divisive and bitter contest can be avoided.
