State placed more than 190,000 women and children in institutions

More than 190,000 women and children were placed in mother and baby institutions and county homes, preliminary government estimates have revealed.

The figures were released last Friday, as part of a report examining the number of survivors entitled to health and well-being supports, as the government attempts to offer assistance to victims of state institutionalisation.
