It has emerged that senior executives in Independent News and Media, the Irish Times and RTÉ met with officials from the controversial government communications unit before the botched media campaign for Project Ireland 2040.

The government announced last week that the Strategic Communications Unit (SCU) is to be “wound down” following a major political controversy over advertorials placed in newspapers promoting the national development plan, some of which carried pictures of Fine Gael politicians....
